Sudan: Defiant demonstrators vow to continue Khartoum sit-in

Tens of thousands of protesters continued demonstrating in Khartoum on Friday, a day after the Transitional Military Council (TMC) said that the sit-in outside the army headquarters was a threat to the safety and security of the Sudanese people and  warned action would taken against “unruly elements”. Sudan ‘s armed forces posted a video on its official Facebook page on Friday apparently showing young men vandalizing an army vehicle, alleging that it was shot during the sit-in. Earlier, another video showed young men hurling rocks at moving cars near the sit-in. The caption read: “Chaos in the heart of the capital. We will put an end to the chaos, God willing.” But demonstrators say the military is using the threats as a possible pretext to break up the sit-in, because protesters want the generals of the TMC to hand power to a civilian-led administration. “I think we should be here every day,” said Eismat Ali, 47, a factory worker in Omdurman. “I try to come here every Thursday ni

Report: Cam Reddish to Undergo Surgery for Core Muscle Injury Before NBA Draft

Image
Alex Brandon/Associated Press Duke product Cam Reddish will reportedly undergo surgery leading up to the 2019 NBA draft.  On Friday, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported Reddish will undergo surgery for a core muscle injury. Charania noted the injury lingered throughout his one season at Duke, but he is expected to be healthy six weeks after the procedure. Bleacher Report’s   Jonathan Wasserman   projected Reddish as the No. 5 overall pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers in his latest mock draft, and this setback shouldn’t do much to harm his draft status if he recovers in six weeks. Reddish projects as a three-and-D forward who can stretch his offensive game to the perimeter and use his combination of length, athleticism and versatility at 6’8″ to defend multiple positions. Despite the skill set, Reddish did not live up to expectations during his lone collegiate season. He averaged 13.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game with the Blue Devils while s

Infant, toddler found unharmed at scene of mysterious triple murder

Police in Virginia are searching for answers after a couple and the woman’s teenage son were killed in a mysterious triple murder, while an infant and toddler were found unharmed at the scene, said authorities. Deputies responding to a wellness check at the home in Fredericksburg on Wednesday morning found the three victims, identified as 39-year-old Michael Coleman, 34-year-old Rachel Ozuna and 14-year-old Kyrrus Ozuna, the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office said. Coleman and Ozuna were a couple while Kyrrus Ozuna was a child of Rachel Ozuna, Capt. Charles Carey, a sheriff’s office spokesman, told ABC News on Friday. The case was ruled a homicide and it appears the victims died “from a sharp instrument,” according to the sheriff’s office. Murder/suicide has been ruled out, said Carey. An infant and a toddler were found in the home, alive and unharmed, according to the sheriff’s office. The toddler and infant are believed to be the children of Michael Coleman and Rachel Ozuna, said Ca

Hezbollah chief warns war against Iran would ‘engulf region’

The head of the Lebanese political and armed movement Hezbollah has warned that any war against Iran would cause the Middle East to “erupt”. Hassan Nasrallah said on Friday that the United States “know well that any war on Iran will not remain confined to Iran’s borders. The entire region will burn”, leading to all US forces and interests in the region being “annihilated”.  The head of the Iran-backed movement made the comments in a televised speech as emergency meetings of the Gulf Cooperation Council ( GCC ) and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference and Arab League took place in Mecca, Saudi Arabia . The meetings were held in order to counter what Saudi Arabia has called Iran’s growing influence in the region. They take place amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran.  In the year since President Donald Trump withdrew the US from a landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and several other world powers Washington has since steadily ratcheted up pressure on Tehra

Lakers Could Land CP3, Anthony Davis This Offseason…but at What Cost?

Image
Tyler Kaufman/Associated Press LOS ANGELES — For roughly an hour in 2011, the world believed that the Los Angeles Lakers had a trade to acquire Chris Paul from the then-New Orleans Hornets. Instead, then-Commissioner David Stern scuttled the deal, and the notion of a Kobe Bryant/Paul All-Star backcourt died a quick death. Could a long-ago wrong be righted this summer? “In calls to front offices, Houston GM Daryl Morey is showing an aggressive desire to improve roster with all players and picks available in talks,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted Wednesday. “Hard to imagine James Harden scenario, but the rest under contract — perhaps even Chris Paul — could be moved in right deal.” The Lakers have superstar dreams, from Kevin Durant to Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving , Klay Thompson and Anthony Davis. If they get enough “yes” answers, the team has the means to build a superteam with three stars including LeBron James . The challenge, however, is actually landing those players

Assange showing symptoms of ‘psychological torture’: UN

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has shown “obvious” signs of the psychological torture inflicted on him due to years of confinement and persecution, according to a United Nations human rights expert. Nils Melzer, the UN rapporteur on torture visited Assange in prison in the UK , where he is currently serving a 50-week sentence for skipping bail in 2012. Melzer made the visit on May 9 along with two medical experts who specialise in examining potential torture victims. They were able to meet “in confidence and to conduct a thorough medical assessment”, the UN said.  “It was obvious that Mr Assange’s health has been seriously affected by the extremely hostile and arbitrary environment he has been exposed to for many years,” Melzer said in a statement  released on Friday. In addition to physical ailments, Assange showed “all symptoms typical for prolonged exposure to psychological torture, including extreme stress, chronic anxiety and intense psychological trauma,” the statement r

Teams That Should Trade Up in 2019 NBA Draft for Duke’s RJ Barrett

Image
0 of 6 Sean Rayford/Associated Press With Zion Williamson and Ja Morant projected to join the New Orleans Pelicans and Memphis Grizzlies, respectively, with the top two picks of the 2019 NBA draft, teams will have to trade with the New York Knicks for the right to select RJ Barrett at No. 3. Barrett should be highly attractive for certain squads determined to find a franchise cornerstone on the wing—whether it’s their first to build around or just another core piece who helps them evaluate their roster. A handful of front offices should at least contact the Knicks with an offer. Maybe they aren’t sold on Barrett and would be open to moving down while acquiring extra assets to do so. They may also be more interested in adding veterans, assuming their goal is to sign stars in free agency and immediately start competing for a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. It’s unclear whether the Knicks would accept any of the following offers. But for the teams trading up, it’s wort

Team loses 2nd sponsor over Ocasio-Cortez video

A second company has cut ties with a California minor league baseball team that played a Memorial Day video that included an image of Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez with images of Kim Jong Un and Fidel Castro. The Fresno Bee reports Heineken International confirmed Thursday it ended its relationship with the Fresno Grizzlies. The company’s Dos Equis and Tecate beer brands sponsored the team. The raisin company Sun-Maid terminated its sponsorship of the Fresno Grizzlies on Wednesday. The Triple-A Washington Nationals affiliate has apologized and said it failed to properly vet the video. The video has patriotic images and excerpts from President Ronald Reagan’s first inaugural speech. When Reagan mentions “enemies of freedom,” the video shows the North Korean leader, Ocasio-Cortez of New York and the late Cuban leader. ——— Information from: The Fresno Bee, http://bit.ly/15z2Wpa Read More from Viral News Trends http://bit.ly/2Xk2Pyi

Katy Perry’s Healing ‘Never Really Over’ Video Will Attempt To Cure Your Heartbreak

2017 took a lot out of Katy Perry . To promote her fifth album, Witness , she endured a 72-hour live stream that dug into her neuroses , forced her to reckon with past lovers , and set her up to bare her soul on the album as well. She did, and she spent nearly a year on tour bringing that experience to the masses. It makes sense, then, that we haven’t heard a ton from her since then, apart from the occasional one-off or superstar collab (or engagement announcement ). But that all changed this week. “Never Really Over,” her buoyant new single, is here. And with its marching-band drums and rousing chorus, it evokes the empowerment of her best past singles like “Roar” and “Firework.” Perry prefaced the release with a pastoral promo teaser focused in the sunlit warmth of nature and the sound of lapping water, a potential signifier that her newest era’s ambitions would be more serene and less concerned with sloganeering (like, say, “ purposeful pop “). The glowing video, directed by f

Barr defends his summary of Mueller report

The Latest on President Donald Trump and special counsel Robert Mueller (all times local): Interested in Donald Trump? Add Donald Trump as an interest to stay up to date on the latest Donald Trump news, video, and analysis from ABC News. 9:10 a.m. Attorney General William Barr is declining to agree with President Donald Trump ‘s assertion that senior FBI officials were engaged in treason when they investigated whether Trump’s campaign was coordinating with Russia . In an interview broadcast Friday on “CBS This Morning,” Barr said there is a “very specific criteria” to satisfy the legal definition of treason and those conditions were not met. Last week, Trump tweeted that the investigation into his campaign amounted to treason. Treason only occurs when a U.S. citizen, or a non-citizen on U.S. territory, wages war against the country or provides material support to a declared enemy of the United States. Nothing of that sort has been alleged. Though Barr didn’t agree with Trum

Budapest boat tragedy: Hopes of finding missing S Koreans fade

Image
Rescue officials in Hungary say there is little chance of locating survivors after a sightseeing boat with South Korean tourists on board capsized on the Danube River in Budapest, with seven people confirmed dead and 21 missing. The Mermaid sank in just seconds after colliding with a much larger cruise ship on a busy stretch of the river in the heart of the capital on Wednesday evening. Officials said 30 South Korean tourists, including at least one child, three South Korean tour guides and two Hungarian crew were on board the 27-metre double-decker boat when the accident occurred at around 9pm (19:00 GMT) in heavy rain. Seven South Koreans were rescued, seven died and 19 South Koreans were among the 21 missing. The crew members were also missing. The seven people rescued were suffering from hypothermia but were in stable condition. Police said the seven people who died had no life vests on. “I wouldn’t say there is no hope, rather that there is a minimal chance [of finding sur

Miley Cyrus Drops She Is Coming EP: See All The Wildest Lyrics

After days of teases and fruit-centric promo , Miley Cyrus ‘s She Is Coming is here. The new EP arrived late Thursday night (May 30), comprised of six fresh tracks in which Miley openly sings about partying, drugs, and unconditional love. Wu-Tang’s Ghostface Killa guests on “D.R.E.A.M.” (an acronym for “Drugs Rule Everything Around Me”), while Swae Lee and Mike WiLL Made-It appear on the glistening, low-key bop “Party Up The Street.” Miley unapologetically revels in being drunk and high on “Unholy,” and declares, “I’m so motherfucking nasty” on the raunchy banger “Cattitude,” which features some R-rated bars from RuPaul. Bookending the EP are the self-assured “Mother’s Daughter” and the emotionally raw “The Most.” In a tweet posted shortly after the new project’s release, the singer revealed that She Is Coming is the first in a series of three EPs; She Is Here and She Is Everything are slated to arrive later this year. In the meantime, check out all the standout lyrics from Mi

Gucci Mane And Justin Bieber Find ‘Love Thru The Computer’ On Surprise New Song

When Justin Bieber decides to make a comeback, he doesn’t waste any time. After lending his voice to Lil Dicky’s star-studded “ Earth ,” making a cameo during Ariana Grande’s headlining Coachella set , and connecting with Ed Sheeran on the instant hit “ I Don’t Care ,” Biebs is back with another new musical offering. This time, the 25-year-old has joined Gucci Mane on the rapper’s new song “Love Thru The Computer,” which arrived without any warning, promo, or teases late Thursday night (May 30). That’s an especially impressive move considering that Guwop and Biebs were sitting on a certified bop that’s about to make Summer ’19 sound a lot sunnier. Gucci turns in a couple loved-up verses — “This the type of love more than physical / When a king get a queen he invincible” — while Bieber adds his Auto-Tuned melodies to the hook. “You can meet me, you can meet me on my laptop … That’s that computer love,” he sings over the old school-inspired production. While Bieber has kept a low p

Sudan army says protest site a threat, closes Al Jazeera office

Sudan ‘s military rulers have said a protest camp in the capital has become a threat to the country’s national security, while also ordering the office of the Al Jazeera Media Network in Khartoum to be shut down, without giving any reason. In a televised statement, a spokesman of the transitional military council said on Thursday that legal action would be taken against what it called “unruly elements” at the encampment outside the defence ministry, where protesters have been staging a sit-in for weeks. “The protest site has become unsafe and represents a danger to the revolution and the revolutionaries and threatens the coherence of the state and its national security,” said General Bahar Ahmed Bahar, head of the central region in Khartoum. He said that a military vehicle used by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had been attacked and seized near the encampment. The site has become the central point of Sudan’s protest movement, which saw longtime autocrat Omar al-Bashir

Pascal Siakam, Raptors Already Putting Kevin Durant-Less Warriors on Notice

Image
Joe Murphy/Getty Images Star power remains the most effective way to win an NBA title. The Golden State Warriors , at full strength, have noticeably more superstar heft than the Toronto Raptors .  Without Kevin Durant , though? Not so much. They’re supposed to have the edge anyway. Whether they actually do is very much to be determined.  Pascal Siakam is why. He led the way for the Raptors during their 118-109 victory over the Warriors on Thursday night, tallying 32 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks on impressive 14-of-17 shooting from the floor. Just to put his performance in perspective, here’s every other player to match those benchmarks in an NBA Finals game since 1974: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (eight times) LeBron James (five times) Julius Erving (twice) Kobe Bryant Tim Duncan Kevin Durant Dwyane Wade   That’s a pretty OK list to join. And this company Siakam now keeps reinforces a larger point: Kawhi Leonard isn’t the Raptors’ singular source of

Philippines ships 69 containers of dumped rubbish back to Canada

A cargo ship carrying tonnes of rubbish dumped in the Philippines by Canada more than five years ago, causing a festering diplomatic row, has left the Southeast Asian country, as nations in the region increasingly reject serving as dumpsites for wealthier states. The 69 shipping containers of rotting waste were loaded onto the M/V Bavaria at Subic Bay port in the early hours of Friday, before embarking on a 20-day journey to Vancouver, in southwestern Canada . “Baaaaaaaaa bye, as we say it,” Philippine Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin wrote on Twitter, along with images of the vessel leaving. MGM Resorts announces more job cuts, calls layoffs complete

Casino giant MGM Resorts International says it’s completing planned layoffs with 779 job cuts, mostly in Las Vegas. CEO Jim Murren told employees the last affected workers would learn Thursday their positions were eliminated. Company spokeswoman Debra DeShong says the job cuts overwhelmingly affect managers. A total of 1,070 company employees lost jobs since the first 254 layoffs were announced in April to cut costs and boost earnings by next year. MGM Resorts has about 77,000 employees and is the largest employer in Nevada. The company says almost all cuts have been in Las Vegas. Trump: US to impose five percent tariff on all Mexican goods

Image
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he will impose a tariff on all goods arriving from Mexico in response to what he called a “mass incursion” of migrants entering the country “illegally”. Trump said the tariff would start at five percent on June 10 but then rise in stages every month to 25 percent on October 1 and remain at that level unless Mexico stops migrants from crossing the US’ southern border. “As everyone knows, the United States of America has been invaded by hundreds of thousands of people coming through Mexico and entering our country illegally. This sustained influx of illegal aliens has profound consequences on every aspect of our national life,” Trump said in a statement . “Mexico’s passive cooperation in allowing this mass incursion constitutes an emergency.” “If the illegal migration crisis is alleviated through effective actions taken by Mexico, to be determined in our sole discretion and judgment, the tariffs will be removed,” he added. On June 10th,
